I just spotted something in the news that really feels like part of the next chapter for filmmaking in Portugal — Green Film Lab 2025 is coming to Lisbon November 7–9.

The lab is all about sustainable production: drafting sustainability plans, going through certification, and exploring how to make shoots that leave less of a footprint. It’s run in English and open to international participants, too. Portugal Film Commission

Why I’m excited about this:

  • Portugal already has a beautiful canvas with scenic landscapes, cities, and heritage. Learning to protect that while filming is just smart.

  • Being sustainable is no longer optional. Everyone’s paying attention.

  • This is a chance to meet like-minded people, learn best practices, and build your toolkit for green production.

  • For international crews considering Portugal, this shows commitment on the ground, not just incentives on paper.

If I were casting my next project or picking a location, knowing there is infrastructure and community in place for sustainable shoots would be a big tick in Portugal’s favor.
