There’s a lot happening right now in Portugal’s film industry, and it’s exciting to see how much attention the country is getting on the international stage.
This summer, Portugal had a strong presence at Cannes 2025, with eight productions and co-productions featured across different festival sections. That kind of visibility helps shine a spotlight on the creative talent here, while also building confidence in Portugal as a serious filmmaking destination.
Behind the scenes, the Portugal Film Commission has been busy too. At this year’s Marché du Film in Cannes, they were promoting the PIC Portugal cash rebate, which continues to be a major draw for international productions. It’s a big reason why we’re seeing more global stories being told here, using Portugal’s landscapes, crews, and resources.
And closer to home, we’re also seeing fresh projects being announced, like the expansion of the Told by Women series into a second season. More diverse stories and voices in the mix means a healthier, more vibrant industry overall.
For me, it’s another reminder of why Portugal is such an exciting place to be right now if you care about film and storytelling. The momentum feels real, and it’s only growing.
